The department of economics is one of the major departments of Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government College Jogindernagar. This department came into existence with the establishment of this institution in 1994. The department is successfully and effectively providing quality education to the UG students who opted economics subject as a major or minor. It is providing education not only for BA students but also for B.Com students in the field of Business Environment etc.

Affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University Shimla, the college is imparting education mainly to rural youths in various disciplines i.e. humanities, science and commerce at undergraduate level. The admission in all disciplines in the first year of bachelor degree courses is offered as per HPU norms. The college is recognized by UGC, New Delhi and is covered under section 2 (f) and 12 B of UGC Act. 1956.
